Society – Portrait

Explore the identity, history, and vision of the Swiss Society of Molecular Pathology (SSMP)—a community dedicated to the advancement of molecular pathology through clinical innovation, rigorous education, and collaborative research.

Who We Are

Founded to bridge cutting-edge molecular science and clinical practice, the SSMP represents pathologists, biologists and bioinformaticians working in molecular pathology laboratories in Switzerland and works closely with researchers, clinicians, and healthcare professionals who are committed to precision diagnostics and personalized medicine.

Our Objectives

We aim to:

  • Promote excellence in molecular diagnostics and personalised medicine.
  • Foster innovative research and continuous professional development.
  • Facilitate collaboration among healthcare professionals and scientific communities.
  • Advocate for policies supporting advanced diagnostics and patient care.

Our Legacy

Since it was established, the Swiss Society of Molecular Pathology (SSMP) has consistently evolved to meet the challenges of molecular diagnostics and precision medicine and has played a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of molecular pathology in Switzerland and beyond. Founded with a vision of integrating cutting-edge molecular techniques into clinical practice, the SSMP has helped to shape healthcare in Switzerland.

Key activities include undertaking and validating the training of Molecular Pathologists, the introduction of advanced molecular diagnostics protocols, expansion of training programs, and collaborations at national and international levels.

Mission and Values

The mission of the Swiss Society of Molecular Pathology (SSMP) is clear: to promote excellence in molecular pathology, support innovative research, provide high-quality professional training, and ensure the delivery of superior diagnostic services.

Our values guide every action we undertake:

Rigor

Commitment to scientific and diagnostic precision.

Transparency

Clear, ethical, and open communication.

Innovation

Encouraging creative solutions and groundbreaking discoveries.

Collaboration

Building strong partnerships within and beyond the scientific community.

Governance and Committees

The SSMP is a sub-section of the Swiss Society of Pathology. The responsibility for training of molecular pathologists and the development of this sub-speciality is delegated from the Swiss Society of Pathology to the SSMP. Day to day direction of the society as well as strategic direction and initiatives is undertaken by its steering committee.
